Prue Acton

The Museum Collection has been enhanced by the gift of an elegant two-piece summer outfit owned by Michele Spencer of Point Lonsdale. The colourful printed rayon fabric drapes beautifully. The flared skirt is attached to a figure flattering basque. Michele purchased this Prue Acton dress in the 1970s.

Prue Acton, born 1943 and educated at Firbank Grammar school, Melbourne, completed a Diploma of Art in 1962 at Royal Melbourne Institute of technology. She majored in Printed Textiles.

In 1963 Prue Acton established a fashion design business in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. It flourished and by 1982 she had world-wide sales of her designs. With the launching of her cosmetic range with its distinctive flower logo on a bold yellow ground, Acton became a Melbourne celebrity. She designed our Olympic uniforms in 1978, 1984 and 1988.
